Edmund Bean Chenowth's father was Joseph Chenowth, born c. 1797,in Tennessee. He married Lidya Bean 21 July 1818. She was born c. 1801 in Tennessee. Edmund Bean Chenowth was born c. 1824 in Tennessee. Edmond B. Chenowth was married to Agnes C. Pickett 22 February 1846. They had seven children: Mary born 16 January 1847; Lydiaann born 17 November 1848; Nicholas O. born 18 January 1851; Henryietta Josephine born 19 March 1853; William Wallace 6 December 1855; Swepson Crockett born 8 July 1857; and Edmond Victor born 24 November 1859. Edmund Bean died during the Civil War.

As a widow with several children, Agness noticed a squad of Union soldiers approaching her cabin. She placed the children in the attic and stood in the door of the cabin with an ax. She told the soldiers that if they approached the doorway, she would kill every one of them. The Union soldiers retreated. Agnes was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.
