Eula Mae Manes was the oldest of three girls born to Edmund Victor and Melina Manes. She seems to have acquired some knowledge of chemistry at Southern Methodist University. She and her sister Mabel moved temporarily to New York city. Mabel returned to Dallas soon, but Eula Mae stayed in New York and experienced a sensational career. Eula Mae became social secretary to the widow Caruso. As a result she moved in the top or elite social set in the City. She met Prince Matchbelli and together they formed the perfume company by his name. It was a complete success. During a train journey across the United States, the Prince developed a fatal illness from sand storms and died. Eula Mae and the Prince's wife did not like one another, so Eula Mae sold out her part of the company. She met Ganz who was in the jewelry business and held sizable shares in Gillete. They adopted two girls from Germany and brought them to their New York city apartment. Eula Mae also brought her mother, Melinda Manes, to live in the apartment and help take care of the two girls.
