| Lydia Jane Applewhite was born 8 March 1896 in San Antonio, Texas. Her father was Hemry Clay Applewhite. She was descended from a famous Applewhite family: Henry Applewhite came to America from England in 1656 abord the ship Powerful, sailing from London to Jamestown.
Jane Applewhite attended school in San Antonio, Texas, and later received a degree from College of Industrial Arts (now named Texas State College for Women)located in Denton, Texas. She majored in Home Economics.
She arrived in Blanco in 1915 and started teaching in the Blanco School system. She married Jarvis Elmer Dale (a rural mail carrier in Blanco County) on 16 August 1917 in San Antonio. Three children (three daughters) resulted from this marriage: Hazel, Jean, and Clay.
Mrs. Dale, in addition to teaching school, was an excellent business person. She was publisher and Editor of the Blanco County News; she helped run a dry cleaning establishment; she had single teachers as boarders in her home. In 1958, she started an antique shop in her home. This shop became well known throughout Texas and her customers included many famous people, including Mrs. Lyndon Johnson.
Mrs. Dale and her husband were active members of the Blanco Methodist Church for over 40 years. She taught the Durham Bible Sunday school Class. She was past State President of Friends of Texas Libraries and started the first public library in Blanco. She died 19 March 1984 in Blanco and was buried in the family plot at Blanco city cemetery.
